Bio
Sophia Alone
Singer, Songwriter, Musician
Sophia starts her shows and YouTube videos from behind a curtain and asks the audience “Do you want to know what a Modern American Muslim Woman looks like?” then, she struts to the front of the stage, hair flowing or tucked inside a colorful American flag hijab, and says confidently “It’s me. I am woman. I am Muslim. I am American.” She continues to sing her butt off performing her original music in French, Arabic and English with her 8 peice band.
The show can be described as a Ted Talk/ Concert because every couple songs she gives a speech talking about Muslim stereotypes and where they come from, with the hopes that you walk away more educated and willing to ask questions.
Sophia’s mission is simple: to un-define the Muslim woman and the way she does that is through her music.
In March she released her first full length album named “Heart and a Half.”
Sophia Alone defines the sound of Soul Pop. She’s got vocals that are undeniably soul-filled and jazzy, but with an overall pop feeling that inspires a room full of moving bodies. The quality of Sophia Alone’s music is a clear result of her many influences – Adele, Jill Scott, Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Sara Barielles, among others. When asked why Sophia Alone went into music she replied “Music is my soul-it’s all I ever wanted to do.”
Sophia has been a contestant on: American Idol, The Voice, Americas Got Talent, Del Mar Idol (Placing 3rd), and Best of Utah (Placing 2nd). After high school she attended San Francisco State University for Jazz Performance and graduated from Los Angeles College of Music in Vocal Performance.
She has been taught by Hall of Fame and Grammy Award Winner Al Jarreu, Ricky Minor (Tonight Show, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys), Danielle LoPresti (San Diego Indie Fest, Danielle LoPresti and the Masses) and Dorian Holley (Tonights Show, Micheal Jackson).
Sophia makes her living off of her one-woman show. Sophia Alone with Sia, Gaga & Perry has become a favorite in Southern California, bringing the intimate sound of a solo, Live singer/pianist/bassist balanced by the excitement of a full band, complete with costumes and choreography. All this, with just one person. She creates that DJ quality sound with tracks but while singing, dancing, playing piano, and bass. Sophia also sings in four languages – English, French, Arabic and Spanish.
In Los Angeles she can been seen at Downtown Disneyland, The Victorian, The Troubadour, Roxy, Witzend, Kulaks Woodshed, Steamers Jazz Club, and more. Her bi-monthly residency is at piano bar and stage Martinis Above Fourth.
She has performed alongside Grammy Award Winner Mya (Jay-Z, Beenie Man, Dru Hill), Grammy Award Winner Patrice Rushen (Quincy Jones, “Forget me Nots”), SOMO (Drake), Sammy J, and Dorian Holley (Tonight’s Show, Michael Jackson).
Sophia works as a professional singer singing lead for cover/wedding corporate bands such as: Identity Theft, (Disney, Marriott) and Lucky Devils Band. As well as the lead singer of Katy Perry and Pink tribute bands Prismatic and Raise Your Glass.
